• How do I reset my barcode reader?

  There are two types of reset – Pairing Reset and Factory Reset.

  A Pairing Reset removes the existing pairing from the memory of the barcode reader, making it discoverable to other host devices, but leaves any other configuration settings in place.

  To perform a Pairing Reset (most readers):

  1. Remove the barcode reader from Bluetooth settings of your host device.
  2. Power on the reader.
  3. Press and hold the scan button and power button simultaneously until the barcode reader plays 3 tones and shuts down.

  To perform a Pairing Reset for the DW930, XS630, XG630, XS930, and XG930, follow Steps 1 & 2 above, then:

  3. Print and scan the barcode below to reset the reader to factory defaults.
     

  

  A Factory Reset puts the barcode reader back to its original factory default settings, making it discoverable to other host devices, but also removes any and all configuration settings that may have been applied.

  To perform a Factory Reset:

  1. Power on the reader
  2. Press and hold the scan button
  3. While continuing to hold the scan button, press and release the power button.
  4. Keep holding the scan button (approx. 15 seconds) until the reader beeps, at which point release the scan button.
  5. The reader will play 5 tones and shut down.

• How do I pair a barcode reader to my Apple Mac device?

  Currently, the only connection profile available for Apple Mac devices is Basic Keyboard Mode (HID). To pair your reader in this mode, please follow the instructions below.

  Step 1: (Skip if you haven't previously paired a scanner) Go into Bluetooth settings on your Apple Mac and forget the scanner.

  Step 2: Reset the scanner by scanning the Factory Reset barcode below:

  

  
  Step 3: Turn the scanner back on and scan the Basic Keyboard Mode barcode below:

  

  
  Step 4: Pair the scanner to your Apple Mac Device in Bluetooth Settings.

• My scanner is not holding a charge.

  Possible Cause:		Solution:
  Your batteries need to be reset.		Remove the battery cover from the back of the barcode reader, extract the batteries and put them aside for 10 minutes. Re-insert the batteries, replace the battery door and charge until the battery indicator light turns green (up to 6hrs).   Possible Cause:		Solution:
  Your batteries need replacing.		Remove the battery cover from the back of the barcode reader, extract the batteries and replace with 2 x AA Rechargeable NiMH batteries. Replace the battery door and charge until the battery indicator light turns green (up to 6hrs). • Does my barcode reader need to be in Application Mode or Basic Keyboard Mode?

  The mode you need to be in depends on the software application you are using your Socket Mobile reader with.

  Application Mode

  Below is a list of the most common apps that require the reader to be in Application Mode to work correctly.

  • Shopify

  Application Mode Set-Up Instructions - If you are using one of the apps listed above, or one that is found on our Business Apps page, you can set up your barcode reader after downloading the Companion application:

  • Apple App store
  • Google Play store 
  • Windows version 

  Once the reader has been paired using Socket Mobile Companion, launch the required software application, the reader will connect to it and you’re all set.
  

  Basic Keyboard Mode (HID)

  Below is a list of the most common Apps that require the reader to be in Basic Keyboard Mode (HID) to work correctly.

  • Notes
  • Microsoft Excel / Spreadsheet
  • Microsoft Word
  • Google Docs online
  • Safari
  • Any text field in a web-based application

  Basic Keyboard Mode Set-Up Instructions – No additional software is required. The Socket Mobile reader is paired directly to the host device in Bluetooth settings and when a barcode or RFID tag is read, the data is delivered to the available text field or where the cursor is flashing on the screen. In Basic Keyboard Mode, if there is no active text field or flashing cursor, the reader will still read the barcode or tag, but no data will be delivered to the software application. In this situation, touch the screen to activate the field or cursor and read the barcode/tag again.

  For Barcode Readers Only

  Basic Keyboard Mode (HID) set-up steps

  1. Remove any existing Socket Mobile reader from the host device’ Bluetooth settings.
  2. Turn the reader on and scan the factory reset barcode below.

  

  The reader will play a tune and shut down.

  3. Power the reader back on and scan the Basic Keyboard Mode (HID) barcode below. The reader will emit 3 tones and will now be discoverable in HID mode.

  
  

  4. Open Bluetooth settings in the host device.
  5. After a few seconds, when the Socket Mobile reader is discovered, tap it on the screen to start the pairing process.
  6. After a successful pairing, the connection status will change to "Connected", the blue light will turn solid and the reader will emit a single beep.
  7. To test – Open your application, position the cursor as required and scan a barcode.

  Important - If connecting to an Apple device in Basic Keyboard Mode, the Apple on-screen keyboard will be disabled. Simply double-tapping the power button will toggle the keyboard up / down. See this video for details .

• My reader frequently disconnects from Bluetooth.

  Possible cause:		Solution:
  Your software application or device's operating system may have updated in the background, or your device may be older and struggling to maintain a Bluetooth connection.		Force close your software application and relaunch it. If relaunching your software application doesn't resolve the issue, reset/restart your device.

  Your iPad/tablet's Auto-lock feature is enabled.		Disable iPad/tablet's auto-lock feature.

• I’ve moved to a new POS system, but it doesn’t recognize my products when I scan.

  Things aren’t always as they seem. Lots of older POS applications (i.e. Quickbooks) allowed users to set up products using data exactly as the product number appeared on the barcode.

  For example, the two barcodes below are Interleaved 2 of 5, and both appear to have 5 characters included.

  

  However, Interleaved 2 of 5 barcodes must contain an even number of characters, so barcode scanners add an additional zero to the beginning, delivering a 5-digit barcode in 6-digit format, as shown below.

  

  When a 5-digit barcode is scanned but your product is listed in your app using only five digits, the product will not be found because the scanner will deliver 6 characters.

  Regardless of the barcode type, we recommend you check what data is actually included within the barcode. If necessary, change the product details within the inventory section so the item will be identified correctly when scanned into your app.

  We recommend using the Socket Mobile Stock Count app  (AU, EMEA, UK) or the 'Test' feature of the Socket Mobile Companion app  (AU, EMEA, UK) to confirm what data is included in the barcode and delivered to the POS application.

  Remember: The scanner will always deliver the data that is contained within the barcode and will only add an additional zero if necessary.
